Why Your Travel History Matters

If you have traveled outside of the United States recently, it might be a problem when you apply for citizenship. Most of the time, it is not a problem, and you should not worry.

Here are the situations that you need to pay attention to:

If you have gone on any trip that lasted between 6 months and 1 year: You can still apply now, but you will need to prove that the United States was still your primary home.

If you have gone on any trip longer than 1 year: You will usually have to wait until this trip is more than 5 years in the past before you can apply.

In the last 5 years, you were outside the country for more than 913 days: You will need to wait to file your application until you have been in the United States for longer.

Many people have questions about their travel history, and we are happy to guide you on how to accurately enter your information and show documentation when it is necessary.
